In 1570, the Florentine Republic sent cartographers out into the countryside to draw up a detailed map of the Chianti region. The maps were drawn on parchment for military and economic purposes. They are now housed in the Historical Archives of Florence in a huge book called "Papers of the Captains of the Guelphs of the Florentine Republic." The maps were designed not according to geometrical and scientific criteria, but by observing the landscape from the top of hills. In this way, the cartographer recorded everything he saw in terms of houses, roads and rivers, and noted the name to the houses or the name of the owner. Houses, villages, castles are drawn simply and directly, rivers and streams colored in blue, while the roads accurately indicate the distances in Florentine "braccie" (approximate 58 cm) so that everyone the could easily understand them.

In one of these pages, which are often organised according to the population belonging to a particular parish, we find "Luogo deto Tegline", "Place called Tegline", the centre of our farm with the same access road as today and with the river and the surrounding streams recognisably delineated. It is surprising to realise that even today, after 500 years, the view offers the same vista, with no further additions of farmhouses.
